  1. The story has a main character who Wants something. This is the beginning of the story.
  2. There is an Obstacle that gets in the way of the main character. This is the middle of the story.
  3. The main character either Wins or loses. This is the end of the story.

The plot of a story is often called a "story arc" because it rises, peaks, and falls. This arc is like a map that runs from the beginning of the book through the middle to the end. The arc usually starts with a problem that the main character tries to solve until they finally learn something and are successful. Watch the YouTube video below!

The plot of the story can also be thought of as a circle. Follow the numbered steps in the diagram below for an example..
